Interview: Micah Sherman - Improvising, A Pilot
Mike Blejer
Micah Sherman and I talk about his sitcom pilot, Improvising, which won the Left/Right Comedy Award at the 2015 New York Television Festival and is currently in development. He just finished a day of shooting on it so we discuss the intricacies of a semi-improvised show and how it's a different process both for the actors and filmmakers than a standard scripted pilot. We also discuss the relationship between improv & the military, and touch on a story of running into Bill Murray, the history of improv with Del Close, and the ways improv has saturated our culture over the past 20 years. Listen to the interview, watch the Improvising teaser below, and Check him out at MicahSherman.com
Also if you're in New York, Micah has an improvised one-act play called The Scene at The Brick Theater on March 7th. All proceeds go to the ACLU, so I would get your tickets today.
Books we discussed on the show: Guru, Truth in Comedy.
